[Finished] Operation Deadly Love
  • Jungkook
  • *Late in the evening*
  • I went outside to the mob of people, reporters and cameramen. I took a deep breath as I searched the crowd for Hana until my eyes fell on her.
  • I approached her just as soon as she saw me. She looked worried and I quickly realized she wasn’t here just as a journalist. She was probably checking on Jin and maybe all of us. After all, these two-three weeks we have all gotten to know each other well.
  • I reached her and reporters instantly swarmed us. I took a deep breath before I cleared my throat. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I know you all have a lot of questions but this is officially an ongoing case and we cannot release a lot of information. For this reason, the team leader in charge has asked to speak to Ms. Kim Hana only for now,’ I said.
  • Hana looked at me perplexed just as the other reporters grumbled. In a way they were right to grumble. We were playing favourites because Hana was one of us. I could not deny it, but I would never admit it out loud. We could play favourites with her because she was someone we could trust. I knew Misun would know that Hana would go along to whatever she told her.
  • I lifted the tape and helped her in as the two of us started hurrying back. ‘Is Jin okay?’ she asked worriedly.
  • ‘He’s fine noona. He’s transporting someone to a safe house along with some other members of the team,’ I explained.
  • ‘Thank God. What about the rest of the team? Is anyone hurt?’ she asked and I shook my head.
  • ‘No. A bit shaken up but everyone’s okay,’ I said, reassuring her.
  • ‘That’s good,’ she said, nodding to herself as we walked back to the place where Misun was waiting. ‘Misun-ah,’ Hana greeted as Misun nodded in greeting.
  • ‘Hello Hana. I’m going to cut to the chase and spare the bull*,’ Misun began, sparing any of the nonsense sometimes we had to face.
  • ‘Of course Misun. I wouldn’t be expecting anything less,’ Hana commented. She had that certain glint in her eyes as she switched from friend to professional. It was actually quite nice to see two hard working women working together like that.
  • ‘It’s a sensitive one and one that is going to cause controversy so you need to be both prepared and careful,’ I said but Hana shrugged as she took out a notepad and pen.
  • ‘You do your jobs and get the *s responsible and I’ll do mine Kooks, don’t worry,’ Hana said. I could not help but smile, knowing she definitely would.
  • ‘Here’s what I can tell you so far. There was a charity event happening, however, there was also an illegal trading happening behind closed doors. This involved diamonds in exchange for weapons and drugs. One of the persons involved was Mr. Kyung,’ Misun explained.
  • Hana stopped writing as she looked at Misun, one eyebrow raised. ‘Kyung? Let me guess, the one who was running for election?’ she asked.
  • ‘Yep the one and only,’ I said as I shook my head. I could hardly wrap my brain around that part…not that I was really surprised if I was being honest with myself.
  • ‘Well they’re going to have a field day with this,’ Hana explained with half a smirk on her face.
  • ‘We know which is why we need you to be careful. You might have people coming at you for the controversy,’ Misun said.
  • ‘Like I told to Jungkook, I can handle it. Don’t worry about me,’ Hana said. ‘Anything else?’ she asked.
  • ‘During the arrest, a fight broke out, however, we had maintained the situation. Kyung was killed by a sniper,’ Misun explained.
  • ‘And you want me to print this out?’ Hana asked. Misun nodded and Hana sighed. ‘You’re poking the snake’s nest, aren’t you?’ she asked.
  • ‘You could say that. It might buy us some more time,’ Misun said. Hana nodded as she gave her a small smile.
  • ‘Got it. Don’t worry, I won’t let you down Misun and thanks for letting me in on it,’ Hana said.
  • ‘You’re someone I can trust. Hana, as much as possible I don’t want the media to know about the one being transported, at least not yet,’ she explained.
  • ‘Understood. I won’t mention anything related to that,’ Hana said, just as Misun’s phone rang. Hana nodded at her as Misun excused herself.
  • ‘Be careful noona,’ I said, even though I had already said it. ‘Do you need a lift? I can ask one of the cops to drive you,’ I offered.
  • ‘Thanks for the offer Kooks but no need, came with my own car,’ Hana replied.
  • ‘What about Yoseob? Who is he with?’ I asked, suddenly remembering about their son. Hana smiled reassuringly.
  • ‘Don’t worry. He’s with Areum,’ she explained, referring to her son being with Yoongi’s wife and daughter. Of course. It’s not like she was going to leave him alone. I nodded as she gave me a slight pat on the shoulder and left.
  • I turned around to look at Misun who had come back. ‘You okay?’ I asked as she looked pretty worried. She looked pale and tired, but mostly worried.
  • ‘Honestly, not really,’ she said as we began to walk towards outside. ‘I feel like my head is about to explode and now we need to go and meet with Captain Sejin and the Chief,’ she said.
  • ‘Aish, this case was supposed to be a simple arrest, but ended up turning into a whole mess,’ I grumbled as I ran my hand through my hair.
  • ‘I rushed through it. I didn’t pay attention to the details,’ she said with a frown. I stopped and grabbed her hand and forced her to turn around. I placed my hands on her shoulders and lowered myself down slightly to be at her level.
  • ‘Princess, I told you before and I’ll tell you again. This wasn’t your fault. This was much bigger than we or even our superiors were prepared for but it wasn’t your fault. We’ll take it step by step princess,’ I said. ‘Take a deep breath for me princess,’ I said.
  • She took a deep breath and let it out before she smirked a little. ‘How many times am I going to tell you not to call me that hmm?’ she asked as we continued to walk.
  • ‘It doesn’t matter how many times you do. I’m still going to call you princess,’ I said with a shrug.
  • ‘Why are you so obsessed with it anyways?’ she asked as she rolled her eyes.
  • ‘Because it’s cute and it’s pretty like you and because you’re our team’s princess,’ I said.
  • ‘Sure, whatever you say Kooks,’ she said as we managed to reach outside.
  • Reporters came to swarm us as a lot of them shouted and yelled at the same time. Cameras were clicking, almost making me dizzy. Microphones were being shoved in our faces as their voices became muffled together.
  • “Is it true that a politician is involved?”
  • “Was this a botched undercover job?”
  • “Who was in charge of this investigation and did they fail?”
  • “How many are dead detectives?”
  • All their voices seemed to become one as I continued to push forward, one hand on Misun’s back until we finally reached that expensive car that we were given for the mission.
  • We got in and put in our seatbelts just before I started the engine. I started to drive towards the precinct while I kept stealing glances at Misun.
  • ‘You might want to take a short power nap. It’s probably going to be a long couple of hours,’ I said but she shook her head.
  • ‘It’s fine Kooks. I can handle it,’ she said, making me shake my head.
  • ‘Were you always this stubborn hmm? I asked, to which she shrugged.
  • ‘Had to learn to be. Had to know how to stand my ground and build walls,’ she said.
  • ‘What do you mean?’ I asked, but she shrugged. ‘You can talk to me Misun-ah. We’re partners,’ I said.
  • ‘I know, it’s just…it’s difficult to talk about,’ she said and I nodded.
  • ‘I know what that feels like Misun,’ I said, this time seriously. ‘Some things just keep hurting, no matter how much time passes but I hope you know that with this team you never have to keep anything to yourself. You can com to us and not just we come to you,’ I said.
  • ‘I know that Kooks,’ she said as she touched my thigh slightly. I felt my heart quicken for a moment, but she quickly seemed to realize as she took away her hand immediately and began to fidget with her fingers.
  • We finally arrived at the precinct as the two of us hurried to meeting room. The Chief ad the Captain were both there, waiting for us, looking really worried.
  • ‘You’re finally here. Is everyone in the team okay?’ the Chief asked.
  • ‘Yes, but Kyung is dead sir,’ Misun said as she went to sit in her chair. If things weren’t so serious, I would joke about how hot she looked right now – sitting down on that chair while still wearing that beautiful dress.
  • ‘Misun, what happened wasn’t your fault,’ Captain Sejin began.
  • ‘That’s what I kept trying to tell her,’ I said. ‘Things got complicated really quickly back there. Seems like we didn’t have half the intel we needed,’ I added.
  • ‘Walk us though exactly what happened,’ the Chief directed. Misun took a deep breath as I sat down. She leaned forward, a serious look on her face.
  • ‘Everything was going to plan. Yeonjun pulled through with the distraction and Jungkook and I managed to follow Felix upstairs. Through the camera that had been installed in his clothes, Yoongi had seen the exchange happening so we intercepted,’ Misun explained.
  • ‘Things were going well, at least, as we expected. There was a bit of a fight and struggle and Kyung was about to escape,’ I said.
  • ‘Kyung as in the politician, right?’ the Chief said. Misun and I both nodded while the Captain scoffed and shook his head.
  • ‘*ing hell,’ he murmured under his breath. I could understand his sentiment as I shared the same feeling. Politicians were supposed to represent the people. They were supposed to help society, but instead, some of them are among the most corrupt people in the world. Some of them are vile and greedy and they break the law but get away with it because of their money and status in society.
  • ‘What happened next?’ The Chief asked, probably not wanting to go into a discussion about politics and its corruption while we’re in the middle of a case.
  • ‘Well, I went after Kyung. I was going to arrest him but he was scared. He wasn’t cooperating at all and kept talking about how they would kill him if he talked,’ Misun explained. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. Her hands were fisted together as she opened her eyes and looked at the Chief and Captain Sejin. ‘That’s when the shot was heard and Kyung fell. It came through the window,’ she explained. ‘I would have most likely ended up dead too if it wasn’t for Jungkook,’ she said.
  • I shivered at the thought. My mind raced ahead and produced an image of Misun on the ground, blood coming out as she took her last breath – an image I did not want to see. I shook my head and shifted my position on the chair.
  • ‘I was only doing my job and having my partner’s back,’ I said.
  • ‘Well, that still deserves a pat on the back Jungkook,’ Captain Sejin explained.
  • ‘He’s right. You both did really well. Misun, brief me on how you’ve dealt with this so far,’ the Chief instructed. Misun took another deep breath, ready to give out the details.
  • ‘Jin, Jimin and Taehyung are transporting Felix to the safe house just in case he is the next target. Right now, he’s our only lead. Namjoon and Yeonjun are doing the medical examinations while Hoseok and Soobin and Beomgyu are processing the crime scene for anything forensics can tell us. Yoongi, Taehyun and Huening-Kai are running Kyung’s financials, social media and tech for any information they can gather,’ Misun explained.
  • ‘Good. You handled the situation well Misun,’ the Chief said, even if she still remained looking unconvinced.
  • ‘You should go home, change and rest for a few hours and then come back. We’re going to have a lot of work,’ Captain Sejin said.
  • We nodded as we both stood up. We gave a slight bow. ‘Can we use the car for now? Mine is still at the hotel,’ I asked.
  • ‘Sure. Just don’t wreck it,’ the Chief said with a smile.
  • ‘Come on pr—Misun. Let’s go home,’ I said. I saw her smile a bit as she nodded. The two of us walked together out of the building as we got into the car.
  • The drive was silent, both of us really tired. The others probably were as well but they needed to do their work now and can rest while Misun and I continued.
  • I parked the car and the two of us walked in the flat. We both went into the elevator and I pressed the button.
  • ‘Try to get some rest. I’ll come get you in four hours princess,’ I said.
  • ‘Ahh so now I am back to princess,’ she said with half a chuckle. I shrugged but smiled as well just as we reached our floor. I went to my apartment and unlocked it.
  • ‘Hey princess,’ I called out, forcing her to turn around.
  • ‘Hmm?’ she asked, sounding tired. ‘What is it Kooks?’ she asked. I couldn’t help but smile hearing her nickname.
  • ‘If you need anything, come knock on my door. Okay?’ I asked.
  • ‘Okay. You too. Now go rests Kooks,’ she said as she walked into her apartment and closed the door. I sighed as I walked back in mine.
